DR. DENISE KEARNEY TO DISCUSS CONTROLLING ALLERGIES JUNE 20
Meriden Public Library will host a special appearance by Dr. Denise M. Kearney on Wednesday, June 20 at 7:00 p.m. Her topic will be “How to Control Allergies”.
Dr. Kearney will define allergic rhinitis, its causes and prevalence in the community. She will then describe how a diagnosis of allergic upper respiratory problems is reached. In addition, Dr. Kearney will review allergic triggers and the similarities and differences between seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. She will close the program with a discussion of the current recommended treatment options for allergies.
Dr. Kearney recently joined The Center for Allergy, Asthma and Immunology in Waterbury.
She recently completed her subspecialty fellowship in allergy and immunology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine. During her training she cared for patients at the Tampa, Florida Veterans’ Hospital, the University of South Florida medical clinics, The Tampa Center for Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, and the All Children’s Hospital Immunodeficiency clinic. Her research project during fellowship investigated cell culture models of viral asthma and she published continuing education articles in the fields of allergy and asthma. A native of Connecticut, she graduated from Cheshire High School in 1991. She graduated from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and received a bachelor or science degree in biology, magna cum laude and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She worked at Duke University Medical Center prior to attending medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School. She is board certified in allergy and immunology as well as internal medicine and completed her internship and residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York. She is a member of the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology and has presented abstracts at both meetings.

“Read ‘Em and Eat”
Wallingford Public Library’s Summer Reading Club for Adults
Beginning June 28th, why not have your cake and read it too? This summer your reading can pay off! Simply participate in our Adult Summer Reading Program: Read “Em and Eat. All you have to do is fill out a Read ‘Em and Eat form for every book you read and turn it in at the library. Look for the forms and our summer reading club display in the adult section of the library. You must be at least 18 years old to participate.
Here is how the program works: Write the name and author of the book you read along with your name and phone number on the reading club form. You must also rate how well you liked or didn’t like the book in the space indicated. Forms are available at the library. The forms will be collected each week and one winner will be drawn from the lot of them. Winners will receive a gift certificate from a local restaurant. The program will conclude on August 26th with our grand prize drawing: everyone who participated in the program will have a chance to win a $50.00 gift certificate to the restaurant of their choice (from the participating restaurants).
