Help is on the way at the Wallingford Public Library. Beginning Tuesday, September 18th and running until mid-November, Wallingford Public Library will be offering free one-on-one computer help to its patrons. PSYCHOTHERAPIST DONNA FERBER TO SIGN COPIES OF “FROM EX-WIFE TO EXCEPTIONAL LIFE” SEPTEMBER 19 Meriden Public Library will host a special appearance by psychotherapist Donna Ferber on Wednesday September 19 at 6:30 p.m. Ferber will sign copies of her book, FROM EX-WIFE TO EXCEPTIONAL LIFE: A WOMAN’S JOURNEY THROUGH DIVORCE, which won an Honorable Mention in 2006 by The Independent Publisher’s Association – Self Help Category. FROM EX-WIFE TO EXCEPTIONAL LIFE: A WOMAN’S JOURNEY THROUGH DIVORCE, by Donna F. Ferber, LPC, LADC is a comprehensive guide for women facing the end of their marriage. It offers support, insight, ideas, information and humor on every imaginable topic related to the divorce process. The format is derived from the “One Day at a Time” philosophy. The 365 one page essays break down the enormous amount of information into manageable pieces. Thus the author supports and educates rather than overwhelms the reader. The essays can be read in sequence, or used as a directory on every imaginable subject related to divorce. There are more than a million divorces in the United States per year, with over 50% of marriages ending in divorce. Donna F. Ferber has written a book that focuses on a woman’s unique struggle with divorce. She incorporates into this guide, the wisdom and experiences of hundreds of women she has counseled during her twenty years as a licensed professional counselor and a licensed alcohol and drug abuse counselor. In addition, the book contains practical advice from attorneys, child advocates, financial planners, and other professionals in fields related to divorce. Like having a trusted friend at your side, FROM EX-WIFE TO EXCEPTIONAL LIFE: A WOMAN’S JOURNEY THROUGH DIVORCE, is a day to day companion providing insight and support for any woman experiencing the pain and disappointment of divorce. Donna F. Ferber, LPC and LADC is a psychotherapist in private practice for 20 years. She is a licensed professional counselor, and a licensed alcohol and drug abuse counselor and an educator. Donna works with individuals and in groups. Her office is in Farmington, Connecticut. In her private practice, Donna specializes in issues related to life transitions. These include but are not limited to divorce, remarriage, chronic illness, loss, relocation. Other areas of expertise include depression, anxiety and grief counseling. As a licensed drug and alcohol counselor, she has expertise in dealing with substance abuse issues and the effects on both the individual and the family. She has been facilitating divorce groups since the late 1990’s. Since the mid 1980’s, Donna has worked closely with attorneys, and other professionals to support and explore ways to make the divorce experience less painful for all family members. To that end, in 1990, along with Attorney Holly Abery-Wetstone, she wrote and facilitated the pilot parenting class for parents going through divorce at Stamford Courthouse, Stamford, Connecticut. That program was the forerunner of a mandated state program now implemented for all parents going through divorce. Donna graduated from Hofstra University with a BA. She has a master’s degree in teaching from Manhattanville College and a master’s degree in counseling from St. Joseph College, West Hartford, Connecticut. She completed a one year post graduate certificate program in substance abuse studies at the University of Connecticut School of Social Work. She is also a certified Montessori Teacher and in 1993, was trained in Ericksonian psychotherapy and hypnotherapy at the American Hypnosis Training Academy. She is an experienced and enthusiastic presenter of workshops, lectures and trainings. Her varied experiences include teaching at St. Joseph College, West Hartford, Connecticut, presenting workshops on stress management at the Connecticut Police Academy, Meriden, Connecticut and facilitating assertiveness trainings at Hartford College for Women, Hartford, Connecticut. She was appointed to and served on the Governor’s Advisory Board for Mental Health and Addiction in Connecticut from 2000 to 2003. She is a frequent presenter of continuing education classes, designs and teaches workshops, and facilitates retreats. Her presentations are lively and thought provoking. Donna’s articles on divorce and step parenting have been featured in many local publications. She has also been interviewed by many major publications including The New York Times, Newsday and Women’s Day Magazine. The program is free and the public is invited to attend. Wednesdays at 11:15 am. for 2-3 years old with parent or caregiver & 6:30 pm. for 2 years old with parent or caregiver. Registration begins August 27th. All first time participants must show proof of age. Story hours begin week of September 10th. START ON STORIES FOR CHILDREN UNDER 2 YEARS OLD IS ON THURSDAY MORNINGS AT 10:30 AM. Children with their parent or caregiver are invited to join us for stories, finger plays, music, and socialization.
