The story picks up where Mother and Me ends, as Yulian and his mother Barbara, dressed as peasants, limp into Budapest’s posh Bristol Hotel, thinking themselves safe. What they had not figured on was that Hungary was a Nazi-sympathizing country, and the exhausted Barbara has allowed herself to brag to a Hungarian border security officer that, when they arrived in America, she would write a book exposing Nazi and Soviet brutalities. What ensues is a game of hide-and-seek, as Barbara and Yulian try to stay one step ahead of the authorities. Books will be available for purchase and signing at the conclusion of the talk. Discussions will be led by Marsha Bonsavage, a discussion facilitator for the Connecticut Humanities Council. Books are available from the Library’s Information Desk.
