REMINDER: LOCAL FOOD DRIVE SATURDAY MAY 8th

SATURDAY, MAY 8, 2010 is the day to leave non-perishable food donations by your mailbox. The National Association of Letter Carriers in Meriden and Wallingford, in conjunction with the U.S. Postal Service and the United Way of Meriden & Wallingford proudly sponsor the local food drive supporting our community. Letter carriers will be collecting food donations along their route on Saturday May 8th for local food pantries in Meriden and Wallingford. This annual food drive is an important event that assists in the restocking of the following local food pantries: Master’s Manna, Inc., Meriden Soup Kitchen, Salvation Army, Shelter NOW, New Opportunities and Catholic Charities. There is an enormous need for food in our community this year, so please remember to leave non-perishable food items at your mailbox for pick up that day. Remember – expired food donations cannot be distributed, so please check the expiration date on all items to be sure you leave food that can be used! The United Way of Meriden and Wallingford proudly supports this event by coordinating volunteers to meet the postal carriers throughout the day and help empty their trucks. The food is then transported by volunteers to a designated food pantry. Any individual, company, group or organization interested in volunteering a few hours of their time on Saturday May 8 to help the postal carriers with their efforts, please contact The Volunteer Center at: sarah@unitedwaymw.org
